Dr. Cook was raised on a diversified livestock and cash crop farm in southeast Iowa. He received his B.S. in Animal Science from Iowa State University in 1990 with an emphasis in Meat Science and Nutrition. His M.S. degree was awarded in Growth and Developmental Biology from Michigan State University where he coached Intercollegiate Meats Judging and Live Animal Evaluation Teams.
In 1993, he returned to Iowa State where he worked as an Assistant Research Scientist in Swine Nutrition while obtaining his Ph.D. Dr. Cook’s graduate studies focused on the cellular biology of muscle growth, as influenced by growth promotants, and the role of phytonutrients in muscle growth and development. Dr. Cook is an author or co-author on over 30 publications including research station reports, scientific abstracts, and refereed journal articles.
Dr. Cook is a member of the American Society of Animal Science where is has been an invited speaker on the topic of phytase in swine nutrition.
