Dr. Newton received her Ph.D. from The Ohio State University in Non-Ruminant Nutrition in 1992.
After graduating from North Carolina State University with a B.S. in Animal Science in 1981, and prior to beginning her graduate studies, Dr. Newton managed a 500-sow farrow-to-feeder pig operation in North Carolina for three years. She then attended Kansas State University and received a M.S. degree in Reproductive Physiology in 1986. After receiving her Ph.D. degree, Dr. Newton completed a short post-doctoral program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Prior to joining the Akey team, Dr. Newton served as Manager of Technical Support for Newsham Hybrids (USA), Inc., a swine genetics company. Her primary responsibilities included technical support in swine production and nutrition for National Accounts and Area Marketing Managers.
Dr. Newton has published 7 refereed journal articles, 10 abstracts, and given 11 invited presentations for various professional associations. She is a registered member of ASAS, ARPAS and ASNS.
