Dr. Loughmiller was raised on a diversified crop and livestock farm in southern Idaho. This experience included working in the farm's 150 sow farrow-finish production system. Dr. Loughmiller then attended Brigham Young University, graduating with a B.S. in Animal Science/Agribusiness in 1995. While at BYU, he managed the university farrow-finish swine teaching and research herd. He then attended Kansas State University, completing his M.S. and Ph.D. in Animal Science/Swine Nutrition in 2000.
Following Dr. Loughmiller's graduation, he was employed by a regional swine nutrition supplier until 2004, when he became the director of nutrition for SCA Nutrition USA, a sister brand of Akey. In 2008, SCA and Akey combined their resources; Dr. Loughmiller joined Akey as a Swine Nutritionist.
Dr. Loughmiller has been a presenter at scientific meetings; been an invited speaker at numerous symposia, including the Nottingham Feed Conference. He has authored or co-authored a book chapter, 6 refereed journal articles and reviews; numerous abstracts and research station reports. He is a member of the American Society of Animal Science.
