Mark was raised on a diversified dairy, beef, and row-crop farm in southern, middle Tennessee. He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Animal Sciences from Auburn University.
Prior to joining Akey, Mark worked for 5 years in the areas of teaching, research, and public service at Colorado State University and the University of Maine. His research focused on protein and energy metabolism of beef and dairy cattle as affected by forage quality, grain processing, and protein quality. He has authored and co-authored several refereed scientific journal and popular farm press articles, and symposium proceedings.
Mark has also served as a manager of a commercial dairy and a herdsman for a seedstock beef farm.
